Patna High Court

Satyendra KumarversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
DISMISSED

Holding

Bail was denied to the petitioner.

Summary

The petitioner, Satyendra Kumar, was arrested in connection with a case registered under sections 406, 420 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly failing to pay rent on a truck he had taken on rent. He has been in custody since 2 September 2024 and faces 75 other criminal cases. The petitioner applied for bail, arguing that the allegations pertained only to a civil rent dispute. The court examined the seriousness of the offences, the petitioner’s extensive criminal antecedents, and the risk of tampering with evidence. Considering these factors, the court declined to grant bail, emphasizing that the order is limited to the bail application and does not prejudice the trial. No opinion on the merits of the underlying criminal charges was expressed.
