Bail was denied to the petitioner.
Summary
The petitioner, Ramdev Uranw, was arrested in connection with a gruesome incident in which a large mob allegedly tied, assaulted, and set ablaze members of an informant's family, resulting in five deaths. He sought bail, claiming innocence and arguing that the charge sheet did not specify any overt act by him. The State opposed bail, contending that the FIR specifically named the petitioner among the accused who participated in the assault and arson. The court examined the seriousness of the offences, the specific nature of the accusations, and the petitioner’s prolonged custody since July 2025. Concluding that the allegations were grave and directly implicated the petitioner, the court denied bail and directed the trial court to expedite the trial within a year.
Issues considered
- Whether bail should be granted to the petitioner given the serious nature of the offences and the specific accusations against him
- Whether the charge sheet provides sufficient basis to deny bail
