Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

Bail is granted to the petitioner subject to specified monetary, surety, attendance, and antecedent‑verification conditions.

Summary

The petitioner, Suranjan Thakur, was arrested in Buxar for possession of 137.64 litres of illicit liquor, alleged to be an offence under Section 30(a) of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act. He filed a bail petition claiming innocence and a clean antecedent, and offered to donate Rs. 25,000 to a charitable organization without admitting guilt. The State opposed the bail. The High Court, after considering the facts and submissions, granted bail on the condition that the petitioner furnish a bail bond of Rs.10,000 with two sureties, deposit Rs.25,000 with the specified ashram, attend the police station on the first Sunday of each month, and have his antecedents verified. Failure to comply would lead to cancellation of bail. The order thus releases the petitioner on bail subject to these conditions.
