BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The Court granted bail to the petitioners, subject to a bond of Rs 10,000 each with two sureties.

Summary

Ajay Singh and Ranjeet Singh were arrested in connection with an assault case (Malahi P.S. Case No. 06 of 2026) alleging offences under several sections of the BNS, 2023. They have been in custody since 8 January 2026 and claim they are innocent, asserting a case‑and‑counter‑case between the parties. The petitioners applied for bail, arguing that the allegations do not justify continued detention. The Court, after hearing counsel, considered the nature of the allegations and the length of custody and decided to grant bail. Each petitioner was ordered to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10,000 with two sureties, subject to the satisfaction of the Judicial Magistrate‑F.C., East Champaran, and the order was limited to the bail application without prejudice to the trial.

Issues considered

  • Whether bail should be granted to the petitioners despite the serious nature of the offences alleged under the BNS, 2023.
