The court granted bail to the petitioner.

Summary

Petitioner Pramod Thakur, father‑in‑law of the deceased Sunita Devi, was arrested in a dowry‑death case (Chakia P.S. Case No.229 of 2025) under Sections 103(1), 80, 61(2) and 3(5) of the BNS. The prosecution alleged that Sunita was killed by her in‑laws for non‑payment of dowry. The petitioner pleaded innocence, stating he lives separately, has no involvement in family affairs, and has no prior criminal record, having been in judicial custody since 30‑11‑2025. The State opposed bail. After hearing both sides, the Patna High Court found the allegations to be general and omnibus and, considering the circumstances, ordered the petitioner to be released on bail upon furnishing a bond of Rs.10,000 with two sureties. The bail order was directed to be complied with before the Judicial Magistrate, First Class, East Champaran.
