Patna High Court

Dhananjay Singh @ Chhotu SinghversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

Bail was granted to the petitioner on the condition of a Rs. 10,000 bond with two sureties.

Summary

The petitioner, Dhananjay Singh, was arrested in connection with a case registered under multiple sections of the BNS and Section 27 of the Arms Act for allegedly injuring a victim by firing upon him, allegedly stemming from a land dispute. He had been in custody since 31 January 2026 and applied for bail. The petitioner’s senior counsel contended his innocence and false implication, while the State and the informant opposed the bail. The court considered the seriousness of the allegations, the duration of custody, and the injury caused to the informant. Finding that bail was appropriate under the circumstances, the court ordered his release on a bail bond of Rs. 10,000 with two sureties of the same amount.

Issues considered

  • Whether bail should be granted to the petitioner despite the nature and number of offences alleged.
  • Whether the period of custody and the injury caused justify denial of bail.
