Patna High Court

Chitranjan Kumar @ SumanversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The Court granted bail to the petitioner with specified conditions.

Summary

The petitioner, Chitranjan Kumar, was arrested on 23 February 2026 for alleged possession of 41.22 litres of illicit liquor, an offence punishable under Section 30(a) of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act. He claimed a clean antecedent and asserted that he was falsely implicated, offering to donate Rs. 25,000 to a charitable organization without admitting guilt. The State opposed the bail application. The Court, after considering the custody period, the nature of the offence, and the petitioner's submissions, allowed the bail application subject to a cash bond of Rs. 10,000 with two sureties and additional conditions, including a charitable donation and monthly police station attendance. The order expressly stated that the observations were prima facie and would not affect the trial's merits.
