Patna High Court

Ranjit KumarversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The court granted regular bail to the petitioner.

Summary

The petitioner, Ranjit Kumar, was arrested in connection with a dowry death case in which the deceased was his wife. He is charged under Sections 302, 201, 498A and 34 of the Indian Penal Code for murder, concealment of evidence, dowry harassment and common intention. The petitioner, represented by Mr. Anjum Perveen, sought regular bail, arguing that he has been in custody since July 2, 2024, the trial has progressed slowly, and he has a clean antecedent. The State, through its Additional Public Prosecutor, opposed the bail on the seriousness of the offences. Considering the length of custody, the tardy progress of the trial and the petitioner’s clean record, the court allowed the bail application, directing the petitioner to furnish a bail bond of Rs. 10,000 with two sureties.
