Holding
The High Court denied bail, holding that the petitioner is not entitled to regular bail at the argument stage of the trial.
Summary
The petitioner, Rajeev Ranjhan Thakur, was charged in a criminal case (PS Case No.78 of 2022) pending before the District Court, Darbhanga. He had applied for regular bail twice, both of which were rejected, and filed a third bail application before the Patna High Court. The trial court submitted a fresh report indicating that the case had progressed to the stage of arguments. The petitioner contended that his continued detention was unnecessary at this stage. The High Court, after considering the report and the circumstances, concluded that the seriousness of the charges and the advanced stage of trial warranted the continuation of custody. Consequently, the court denied the bail application.
