Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The Court granted bail to the petitioner subject to a cash bond, sureties and specific conditions.

Summary

Satish Kumar (S.K. Raghav) was arrested on 29 March 2026 in connection with a case alleging he lured Anita Kumari, extracted Rs. 5 lakh for a promised marriage, later reneged, and the deceased allegedly committed suicide. The petitioner claimed he had a clean antecedent, that the FIR was fabricated, and that he bore no role in the death. The prosecution opposed bail, citing offences under Sections 108, 316(2) and 318(4) of the Indian Penal Code. The Court considered the nature of the allegations, the petitioner’s custody since March, and the principle of bail. It granted bail on a Rs. 10,000 bond with two sureties, imposing conditions of cooperation, non‑tampering with evidence, and verification of criminal antecedent.

Issues considered

  • What is the appropriateness of granting bail to the accused in a case involving alleged suicide and alleged financial exploitation under Sections 108, 316(2) and 318(4) of the IPC?
