Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The court held that regular bail must be granted to the petitioner.

Summary

Ranvijay Kumar was arrested for assaulting the brother of an informant with an iron rod, causing grievous injury during a cricket match. The charge sheet includes offences under sections 126(2), 115(2), 118(1), 333, 54, 303(2), 74, 109 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The petitioner, who has been in custody since 14‑11‑2025 and claims a clean antecedent, applied for regular bail. The State opposed the bail, but the court considered the nature of the accusation, the investigation material and the length of custody. Finding no compelling reason to deny liberty, the court granted regular bail on a bond of Rs.10,000 with two sureties.

Issues considered

  • Whether regular bail should be granted to the petitioner under the offences charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023
  • Whether the nature of the alleged assault and the period of custody justify denial of bail
