Holding

The court held that, on the basis of the reasons pleaded, the time for surrender and furnishing bail bonds may be extended by two weeks.

Summary

The petitioners, Sukhdev Lal Singh and others, were ordered by the Patna High Court on 22 April 2025, in Criminal Appeal (SJ) No. 4533 of 2023, to surrender and furnish bail bonds. They filed a modification application on 30 January 2026 seeking an extension of the time allowed for compliance. The learned counsel for the petitioners argued that the reasons stated in the petition justified a further period. The court examined the reasons and exercised its inherent power to modify its earlier order. Consequently, the court extended the surrender and bail‑bond deadline by two weeks from the date of the order and disposed of the modification application.
