Patna High Court

Nunu Singh @ Cunu SinghversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The court granted bail to the petitioner.

Summary

Nunu Singh was arrested in connection with a case (Sonepur PS No.502 of 2020) alleging that he fired upon an informant with a desi katta, invoking multiple offences under the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act. The petitioner, claiming innocence and citing a family dispute as the backdrop, had been in custody since 22 August 2025 and sought bail. The State opposed the bail application, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges. The court examined the facts, the circumstances of the case, and the length of custody, and concluded that bail was appropriate. Consequently, the petitioner was ordered to be released on a bail bond of Rs 10,000 with two sureties of the same amount.

Issues considered

  • Whether bail should be granted to the petitioner despite the multiple serious charges under the IPC and Arms Act
  • Whether the period of custody and the nature of the alleged offence justify denial of bail
