Bail was denied to the petitioner.
Summary
The petitioner, Md. Amir, applied for bail in a case registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code concerning alleged looting of an informant’s house. The prosecution alleged that unknown criminals committed the loot and that a goldsmith’s confessional statement linked the petitioner to the purchase of the looted ornaments. The petitioner has been in custody since 24 July 2023 and faces 17 other similar serious allegations. The court considered the material evidence, the confessional statement, and the petitioner’s criminal antecedents. Finding the evidence sufficient and the risk of further offences high, the court declined to grant bail. Consequently, the bail application was dismissed.
