Decided
Disposal
BAIL REJECTED

Holding

The Court held that regular bail could not be granted to the petitioner.

Summary

The petitioner, Shaurya Verma, applied for regular bail in a criminal case registered under Sections 302, 120(B) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly shooting the husband of an informant. The FIR did not originally name the petitioner, but the investigation later identified him as the alleged shooter. The High Court examined the nature of the accusations, the seriousness of the offences, and the material evidence on record. Considering the gravity of the murder and the alleged conspiracy, the Court rejected the petitioner's request for regular bail. However, noting that the petitioner had been in custody since 18‑12‑2024, the Court directed the trial court to expedite the trial and conclude it within one year of receiving the order.
