Decided
Disposal
BAIL REJECTED

Holding

The court held that bail could not be granted as the accusations were specific, the offence grave, and the petitioner was already in custody.

Summary

Laljit Singh was charged with murder and several offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act for allegedly shooting the brother of an informant. The petitioner sought bail, claiming innocence and alleging false implication, and noted that he had been in custody since 10 June 2025. The State opposed bail, emphasizing the specific accusation of shooting resulting in death and corroboration by another injured party. The court examined the gravity of the offences, the specificity of the charge, and the petitioner’s continued custody. It concluded that bail could not be granted given the seriousness of the allegations. The trial court was directed to expedite the trial and conclude it within one year of receiving this order.
