BAIL REJECTED

Holding

Anticipatory bail was not granted to the petitioner.

Summary

The petitioner, Sumant Kumar, was alleged to be a member of a gang that fired at an informant, causing injury, and subsequently looted cash and personal documents worth Rs.1,59,000. He faces charges under Sections 395 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code and has a prior criminal antecedent. Fearing arrest, he applied for anticipatory bail. The court examined the seriousness of the offences, the presence of a criminal antecedent, and the risk of tampering with evidence. Considering these factors, the court concluded that granting anticipatory bail would be inappropriate. Consequently, the petition for anticipatory bail was rejected.
