The petitioner, Devopom Banarjea, applied for anticipatory bail in a cyber fraud case (Madhepura Cyber P.S. Case No.67 of 2024) alleging he had taken Rs.2,00,000 from the informant's account. The charges were under sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the Bihar Narcotic Substances Act, 2023, and sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act. The court examined whether the seriousness of the alleged offences warranted the grant of anticipatory bail. Considering the nature and gravity of the allegations, the judge was not inclined to provide relief. Consequently, the anticipatory bail application was rejected.
