The court modified the earlier order, extending the surrender period by eight weeks subject to a Rs 5,000 deposit with the District Legal Services Authority.

Summary

Chandan Kumar filed a petition seeking modification of an earlier order that set a deadline for his surrender and furnishing a bail bond. The court examined the reasons presented for needing more time and decided to grant an additional eight weeks for surrender. The extension was conditioned upon the petitioner depositing Rs. 5,000 with the District Legal Services Authority and furnishing the receipt along with the bail bond. The deposited amount may be used by the civil court for furniture and beautification of its premises. Consequently, the earlier order was modified accordingly and the petition was allowed.

  • Whether the court can extend the period of surrender granted to the petitioner
