Patna High Court

Karan Lal Dev @ Karan KumarversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The court granted regular bail to the petitioner.

Summary

The petitioner, Karan Lal Dev, was arrested in connection with Baheri Police Station Case No. 345/2025, which alleged offences under multiple sections of the BNS, including loot and murder. He applied for regular bail, contending that he had returned looted items and had no involvement in the murder, and that the investigation against him was complete. The State opposed the bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and a prior criminal antecedent, though the petitioner was already on bail in that earlier case. The court considered the petitioner’s custody duration, the completion of investigation, and his limited role in the alleged offences. Concluding that bail was appropriate, the court ordered his release on a bail bond of Rs. 20,000 with two sureties of the same amount.

Issues considered

  • Whether the petitioner is entitled to regular bail despite the serious nature of the charges under the BNS.
  • Whether the completion of investigation and the petitioner’s alleged limited role justify granting bail.

against him coupled with his role in the alleged offence, this

court is inclined to release the petitioner on bail. Accordingly,
