Holding

The court held that the petitioners' grievance was already redressed and therefore dismissed the writ petition.

Summary

The petitioners, a group of landowners from Dobhi village, filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing the State of Bihar and its revenue officials to correct errors in the revenue records (Jamabandi) and to issue rent receipts for several parcels of land, based on earlier orders dated 21-10-2022 and a 2018 court order. The respondents, including various revenue officers, filed a supplementary counter‑affidavit stating that the errors had been rectified and the Jamabandi entries corrected. The court examined the affidavit and concluded that the petitioners' grievance had been fully redressed. Consequently, the court held that no further direction or action against the officials was necessary. The writ petition was therefore disposed without granting the reliefs sought.

Issues considered

  • What relief, if any, is appropriate when a petitioner's grievance regarding errors in revenue records and rent receipts has been allegedly corrected by the respondents?
  • Whether the court should issue a mandamus directing further correction of the Jamabandi and issuance of rent receipts despite the respondents' claim of redress.

“5. That in pursuance the aforesaid petition,

the matter was enquired and thereafter all the

of the Circle Officer, Dobhi, Gaya Ji who holds the revenue

records relating to the case of the petitioner, it seems that the

grievance of the petitioner stands redressed.

                                  5. It goes without saying that if the petitioner still
