Patna High Court

Ramveer Singh, versusAmit Suhani, State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
WITHDRAWN

Holding

The contempt petition is dismissed as withdrawn.

Summary

Ramveer Singh filed a petition seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against several officials of the Bihar government, alleging they willfully violated a prior order dated 4 February 2020 which directed the District Education Officer to dispose of his representation within three months. The petitioner later contended that the matter had become infructuous and requested to withdraw the petition. The court considered the request to withdraw and, finding no further cause for contempt, dismissed the petition as withdrawn. No substantive discussion on the merits of the alleged contempt was made. The dismissal effectively closed the contempt proceeding.

Issues considered

  • Whether the contempt petition seeking to punish alleged non‑compliance with the earlier order should proceed.
  • Whether the petitioner may withdraw the contempt petition on the ground that the matter is infructuous.

Subjects

  • contempt of court
  • withdrawal of petition
  • writ jurisdiction
  • administrative compliance
  • civil writ jurisdiction
