The court held that the order dated 20‑10‑2020 had been complied with, so no contempt proceeding was warranted.

Summary

Navin Kumar Singh filed a petition in the Patna High Court seeking to initiate contempt proceedings against North Bihar Power Distribution Co. Ltd. and its officials for allegedly disobeying an order dated 21‑12‑2019 issued in Civil Writ Jurisdiction Case No. 24462 of 2018. The court examined the show‑cause notice and noted that the Managing Director of the company had issued a reasoned order on 20‑10‑2020. Upon review, the court was satisfied that the order had been complied with. Consequently, the court granted the petitioner liberty to raise the matter again if desired but found no ground for contempt. The petition was therefore disposed of.

Issues considered

  • Whether the opposite parties disobeyed the order dated 21‑12‑2019 and are liable for contempt.
