Holding

The petition is disposed of without ordering any contempt proceedings.

Summary

Ram Yatan Singh filed a petition seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against officials of Punjab National Bank, alleging willful disobedience of a Court order dated 05‑02‑2015 in C.W.J.C. No.17009 of 2009. The Bank produced a statement showing that the petitioner’s account was closed on 28‑03‑2023 after full settlement of the amount. The Court recorded the statement, noted that the petitioner could approach the Court if any grievance remained, and consequently disposed of the petition without ordering contempt proceedings. The order effectively dismissed the petition and left the matter closed.

Issues considered

  • Whether the alleged non‑compliance by the bank amounts to contempt of the earlier Court order dated 05‑02‑2015
  • Whether the Court should initiate contempt proceedings based on the petitioner's grievance

Subjects

  • contempt of court
  • civil writ jurisdiction
  • bank account closure
  • petition disposal
