The court granted a further six‑month extension of the arbitrator's mandate, extending it from 30 June 2026.

Summary

The petitioner, Manjusha Nishikant Shinde, filed an arbitration petition seeking an extension of the arbitrator's mandate, which had expired on 30 June 2026. The mandate had previously been extended by the coordinate bench on 10 July 2025 for twelve months, also set to expire on 30 June 2026. Both parties submitted a joint pursis on 24 June 2026 requesting an additional six‑month extension. The court examined the joint pursis and accepted the statements made on oath in the memo of application. Accordingly, the court disposed of the writ petition by extending the arbitrator's mandate for another six months from 30 June 2026.

Issues considered

  • What is the appropriate procedure for extending an arbitrator's mandate beyond the period previously ordered by the court?
  • Whether the joint pursis filed by the parties suffices to justify a further six‑month extension of the arbitrator's mandate.
