The Court extended the time for the Committee to decide the tribal claim by eight weeks.
Summary
The State of Maharashtra and the Scheduled Tribes Certificate Scrutiny Committee applied for an extension of time to decide the tribal claim of the petitioner in Writ Petition No.1153 of 2026. The High Court had previously ordered the Committee to render its decision by the end of June 2026. The Committee cited pending claims and the need to obtain a Vigilance Cell report as reasons for the delay. The Court found these reasons sufficient and granted an eight‑week extension from the date of the order. Consequently, the civil application seeking the extension was allowed and the matter was disposed.
Issues considered
- Whether the Scheduled Tribes Certificate Scrutiny Committee may be granted an extension of time to decide a tribal claim pending before it
- Whether the reasons cited by the Committee justify a deviation from the Court's earlier deadline
