Holding
The court held that the State had complied with the modified order, so the contempt petition was dismissed.
Summary
The petitioners, Tree House High School and others, filed a contempt petition alleging that the State of Maharashtra failed to comply with a February 4, 2026 order directing reimbursement of the school’s dues. The court noted that the February order was modified on August 19, 2026, setting a new deadline of September 7, 2026 for payment and specifying that officials would appear in court if the deadline was missed. The petitioners’ counsel submitted that the modified order had been complied with. The court examined the compliance and, finding that the State had indeed made the required payment within the stipulated timeline, concluded that there was no contempt. Consequently, the contempt petition was disposed of. The order was signed by Justices Firdosh P. Pooniwalla and R.I. Chagla on September 10, 2026.
