- DISPOSED OFF
Holding
The contempt is purged by the deposit and the amount, with interest, must be disbursed to the petitioners.
Summary
The petitioners filed contempt petitions against the respondent, alleging non‑compliance with a prior order. The respondent deposited the directed amount with the Court, thereby satisfying the contempt requirement. The petitioners then sought permission to withdraw the deposited sum, while the respondent raised no objection. The Court held that the deposit purged the contempt and ordered the proceedings to be dropped. Consequently, the Court directed that the deposited amount, together with any accrued interest, be disbursed to the petitioners. No further relief was sought or granted.
Issues considered
- Whether the deposit of the directed amount by the respondent extinguishes the contempt proceedings
