The court may correct a typographical error in its order without altering its substantive effect.

Summary

The applicant, Mr. Pradeep Laxmidas Thakker, filed a civil revision seeking correction of typographical errors in a court order dated 19th August 2026. The order mistakenly recorded dates as 25th October 2005 in paragraph 3 and paragraph 10, instead of the correct dates of 23rd February 2007 and 21st February 2005 respectively. Counsel for the applicant highlighted these errors and requested that the court amend the order accordingly. The court examined whether it has the authority to rectify such clerical mistakes without altering the substantive content of the order. It held that correcting obvious typographical errors is within its power to ensure accuracy of the record. Consequently, the court ordered that the original order be corrected to reflect the proper dates and that the corrected order be uploaded, with the applicant’s counsel to inform the respondent’s counsel.
