KARTIK DHANPALversusHE STATE OF MAHARASHTRA AND ANR

The court may correct inadvertent mistakes in its judgment by directing the registry to amend and re‑upload the corrected judgment.

Summary

The applicant, Kartik Dhanpal, filed an interim application seeking correction of three inadvertent errors in a judgment dated 13 March 2026. The errors involved the FIR number, the chargesheet reference number, and the nomenclature of the court. The applicant argued that these mistakes required correction for proper interpretation of the judgment. The Court examined whether it could amend its own judgment to rectify such clerical errors without a fresh hearing. It held that the court may correct inadvertent mistakes by issuing an order directing the registry to amend the judgment and re‑upload it with the judge’s signature. Accordingly, the interim application was allowed and disposed.
