The Court condoned the 63‑day delay in filing the appeal under Section 14‑A of the SC & ST Act.

Summary

The appellant, Vasanthakumar Prabhakar Gouda, filed a bail application which was rejected by the trial court. He subsequently filed a criminal appeal under Section 14‑A of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, but the appeal was lodged 63 days after the order. The appellant sought condonation of this delay through an interim application. The Court examined whether the delay could be condoned under the provisions of the SC & ST Act and the principles of justice. It held that the 63‑day delay was excusable and granted condonation. Consequently, the appeal was listed for hearing on 6 October 2026 and the interim application was disposed of.
