The revision application is allowed to be withdrawn and the trial court is directed to conclude the trial within six months.
Summary
The applicant, Sajid Abdul Rashid Arai, filed a criminal revision seeking leave to withdraw the application and requested that the trial of a 1999 offence be expedited. The learned counsel argued that the case had been pending for many years and urged the court to direct the trial court to conclude the trial within six months. The bench considered whether the revision could be withdrawn and whether it could issue a direction for speedy trial. It allowed the withdrawal of the revision application and ordered the trial court to complete the trial as expeditiously as possible, preferably within six months of the order. No substantive merits of the underlying criminal case were addressed.
Issues considered
