Summary

Shivaji Dattatraya Patil filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court seeking a direction to the Deputy Secretary & Chairperson (Respondent No.4) to decide and dispose of his appeal dated 6 April 2026 in accordance with law. The petitioner alleged undue delay in the disposal of his appeal before the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE). The Court examined whether it could issue a mandatory direction to an administrative authority to act within a specified time frame. Relying on MSBTE Circular No. MSBTE/Ka-54/GRC/2022/5856 dated 26 September 2022, the Court ordered Respondent No.4 to decide the appeal within four weeks, after giving a hearing to all concerned parties. The petition was thereafter disposed of without any order for costs.
