SANDIP RAGHUNATH GAIKWADversusBABASAHEB AMBEDKAR MARATHWADA UNIVERSITY THR ITS VICE CHANCELLOR AND OTHERS
- Disposal
- DISPOSED OFF
Holding
The writ petitions are allowed, and the university is directed to grant a one‑month extension for thesis submission subject to each petitioner depositing Rs 1,00,000 as security.
Summary
The petitioners, a group of students, filed multiple writ petitions challenging the university's refusal to extend the deadline for submitting their theses. They sought a one‑month extension and were required to deposit a security of Rs 1,00,000 each. The High Court noted that the matter had already been addressed in its earlier order in Writ Petition No. 6661 of 2026, which dealt with similar issues. Relying on that precedent, the Court allowed the present petitions, directing the university to grant the requested one‑month extension. The Court conditioned the relief on the petitioners depositing the stipulated security within one week, and warned that failure to submit the theses within the extended period would result in revocation of the order. The order was made absolute and is effective immediately.
Issues considered
- Whether the university may be directed to extend the deadline for thesis submission for the petitioners
- Whether the petitioners must deposit a security amount as a condition for granting the extension
