Bombay High Court
VANDANA SAHEBRAO INGLEversusDR. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR MARATHWADA UNIVERSITY AND OTHERS
- Disposal
- DISPOSED OFF
Holding
The Court held that the petitioners are entitled to a one‑month extension for thesis submission, subject to each depositing Rs 1 lakh with the university within a week.
Summary
The petitioners, a group of university students, filed multiple writ petitions seeking an extension of time to submit their theses, alleging that the university had not granted sufficient time. The respondents, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and its Vice‑Chancellor, opposed the relief. The Court noted that the matter had already been addressed in its earlier order in Writ Petition No. 6661 of 2026, which dealt with the same issue. Relying on that precedent, the Court allowed the writ petitions, directing each petitioner to deposit Rs 1,00,000 with the university within a week and granting a one‑month extension for thesis submission. The order further stipulated that failure to submit within the extended period would result in the order being revoked.
Issues considered
- Whether the petitioners are entitled to an extension of time for submission of their theses.
- Whether the condition of depositing Rs 1,00,000 per petitioner is a valid prerequisite for granting the extension.
