NEETA DASHRATH KALVEversusDR BASAHEB AMBEDKAR MARATHWADA UNIVERSITY CHH SAMBHAJINAGAR THR ITS VICE CHANCELLOR AND ORS
- Disposal
- DISPOSED OFF
Holding
The Court allowed the writ petitions, conditioning a one‑month extension for thesis submission on the petitioners depositing Rs.1,00,000 each within a week.
Summary
The petitioners, a group of students, filed multiple writ petitions challenging the university's refusal to grant them an extension for submitting their theses. The High Court noted that the matter was already covered by its earlier order in Writ Petition No.6661 of 2026. Relying on that precedent, the Court allowed the petitions, directing each petitioner to deposit Rs.1,00,000 with the university within a week. Upon receipt of the deposit, the university was ordered to grant a one‑month extension for thesis submission. The Court further stipulated that failure to submit the theses within the extended period would result in the order being revoked. The order was made absolute.
Issues considered
- Whether the university is obligated to grant an extension of time for thesis submission to the petitioners
- Whether the petitioners must deposit a specified amount as a condition for the extension
