MUFASSIR NAWAZ ZAHOOR AHMED SHAIKHversusDR BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR MARATHWADA UNIVERSITY THR ITS VICE CHANCELLOR AND OTHERS

The writ petitions are allowed, and the university must grant a one‑month extension for thesis submission upon receipt of a Rs.1,00,000 security deposit from each petitioner.
Summary
The petitioners, a group of students, filed multiple writ petitions challenging the university's refusal to extend the deadline for submitting their theses. The High Court noted that the matter was already addressed in its earlier order in Writ Petition No.6661 of 2026. Relying on that precedent, the Court allowed the petitions, directing each petitioner to deposit a security of Rs.1,00,000 with the university within a week. Upon receipt of the deposit, the university was ordered to grant a one‑month extension for thesis submission. The Court warned that failure to submit within the extended period would result in the order being revoked. The order is absolute and enforceable.
Issues considered
- Whether the university may be compelled to extend the deadline for thesis submission by the petitioners
- Whether the petitioners must furnish a security deposit as a condition for the extension
Subjects
- thesis submission
