Decided

Holding

The petition is dismissed as there is no surviving relief to grant once the detention period has ended.

Summary

The petitioner, Sunny Sanjay Sakpal, filed a criminal writ petition in the Bombay High Court challenging a detention order dated 19 September 2025. The petition sought relief against the legality of his detention, which began on 21 September 2025. No counsel appeared for the petitioner, and an adjournment was previously sought on 31 July 2026. The learned Assistant Public Prosecutor informed the Court that the period of detention had already elapsed and the petitioner had been released. Since the detention order no longer had any operative effect, the Court found that there was nothing left to adjudicate and disposed of the petition.
