The High Court may issue a mandatory direction to the Minister to dispose of the pending revision application within four months.

Summary

The Greater Bombay Co-operative Bank filed a writ petition seeking a direction to the Minister of Cooperation and Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, to dispose of its pending Revision Application No.31/15C of 2024, which has been pending for over two years. The petitioner argued that the delay was prejudicial and requested a time‑bound schedule for disposal. The Court examined whether it could issue a mandatory direction to an administrative authority to expedite a pending revision. It held that the High Court has the jurisdiction to direct the Minister to dispose of the application within a specified period. Accordingly, the Court ordered that the revision be disposed of within four months of the order and dismissed the petition.
