The Court directed the Minister for Co‑operation to decide the pending appeal within three months, thereby imposing a statutory time‑limit.

Summary

The petitioners, Sai Shraddha Majoor Sahakari Sanstha Ltd. and others, filed a writ petition seeking direction to the Minister for Co-operation to decide an appeal pending before him. The petitioners argued that the appeal had been unduly delayed and that the Minister required a specific time‑frame for disposal. The respondent State, represented by the Additional Government Pleader, requested a four‑month period to consider the appeal. The Court examined the need for expeditious adjudication of administrative appeals and the Minister's duty to act within a reasonable time. It held that the Court could impose a deadline to ensure timely decision‑making. Consequently, the Court directed the Minister to decide the appeal within three months of receiving a copy of the order, and the petition was disposed.
