Bail was denied because the case had been reserved for judgment, and granting bail at such an advanced stage was not permissible.

Summary

The petitioner, Sahida Khatoon, sought bail in a criminal case (PS Case No.49 of 2025) involving alleged offences under Section 137(1)(b) of the B.N.S. and Sections 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act. The trial court had already reserved the matter for judgment, indicating that the proceedings were at an advanced stage. The petitioner’s counsel argued for bail, while the State opposed the application. The High Court observed that granting bail at such a late stage, when the trial court is poised to deliver its judgment, is inappropriate. Consequently, the court rejected the bail application, denying the petitioner any relief.

Issues considered
