Patna High Court

Satyam Kumar @ Satyam ChaudharyversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The Court granted bail to the petitioner, subject to bond and conditions, finding no sufficient ground to deny bail.

Summary

The petitioner, Satyam Kumar, was named in an FIR for allegedly taking part in a mob that assaulted a police informant and Sub‑Inspector Khusboo Kumari during an accident on 18 January 2026. He faces charges under numerous sections of the B.N.S., 2023, including offences relating to rioting, assault, and attempt to murder. The petitioner argued that the allegations were vague, the injuries sustained by the victims were simple, and he has a clean antecedent. The State opposed bail, contending the seriousness of the offences. The Court, after reviewing the injury report and noting the lack of specific allegations, granted bail on a Rs.10,000 bond with two sureties, subject to verification of the petitioner’s criminal antecedent under Section 482(2) of the B.N.S.S.

Issues considered

  • Whether the petitioner is entitled to bail despite being charged with multiple serious offences under the B.N.S., 2023.
  • Whether the FIR contains specific allegations sufficient to deny bail.
  • Whether the nature of the injuries to the victims and the petitioner’s antecedent affect the bail decision.

occurrence, the informant directed for taking the injured to the
