DISMISSED

Holding

The Court dismissed the petitioner's application for anticipatory bail.

Summary

Shailendra Singh Tarkar applied for anticipatory bail fearing arrest in a case (PS Case No. 18 of 2025) that alleges he extorted money from government officials while posing as an RTI activist and journalist. The prosecution charged him under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 67 of the Income Tax Act. The petitioner contended that he is innocent and that the allegations are false, but disclosed that he already has two pending criminal cases of a similar nature for which he is on bail. The State opposed the anticipatory bail application. The Court, after considering the seriousness of the allegations and the petitioner’s prior criminal antecedents, declined to grant anticipatory bail. Consequently, the application for anticipatory bail was dismissed.
