Decided
Disposal
BAIL REJECTED

Holding

Anticipatory bail was denied because the nature of the accusations warranted detention.

Summary

The petitioner, Sonu Kumar Mehta, was implicated in a violent incident on 02-04-2025 where he allegedly struck and ran over the informant's son, subsequently attempting to conceal the body and stealing cash and a gold chain. The victim later died despite being taken to a hospital, leading to an FIR charging the petitioner with offences under Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), 109, 238, 303(2) and 253(2) of the B.N.S., 2023. Fearing arrest, the petitioner applied for anticipatory bail. The Court examined the seriousness of the allegations, which involved homicide, theft, and assault with a deadly weapon. Considering the grave nature of the accusations and the potential for tampering with evidence, the Court found no merit in granting bail. Consequently, the petition for anticipatory bail was rejected.
