Piyush Ranjan Kumar @ Piyush RanjanversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL REJECTED

Holding

The court held that bail could not be granted at this stage due to the seriousness of the offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Summary

The petitioner, Piyush Ranjan Kumar, sought bail in a vigilance case (PS Case No. 66 of 2025) alleging that he had demanded a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh in connection with the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. The prosecution alleged that the petitioner was caught red‑handed taking a bribe of Rs. 50,000, supported by an audio clip and a polybag of cash recovered during a raid. The petitioner contended that the allegations were false, that the application for funds for his mother had been approved, and that there was no criminal antecedent. The State opposed bail, emphasizing the seriousness of the offence under Section 7(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The High Court, after considering the nature and gravity of the offence and the evidence, refused to grant bail, directing the trial court to expedite the trial and allowing the petitioner to re‑apply for bail after three years if the trial remains pending.

petitioner has falsely been implicated in the present case. He

petitioner is baseless as the application for grant of Rs. 10 Lakhs

in faovur of the petitioner’s mother was approved and cleared

by erstwhile District Fisheries Officer, West Champaran from

whom the petitioner took charge on 07.07.2025. The informant’s

applications under the Mukhya Mantri Talab Matsiyaki Vikas

                                  6. Considering the aforesaid facts and circumstances

renew the prayer for grant of bail before the Trial Court if the

trial is not concluded within a period of three from today. If any

such application is filed before the learned court below, the
