Ravi Kumar SinghversusThe State of Bihar

Decided
Disposal
BAIL GRANTED

Holding

The Court granted bail to the petitioner.

Summary

Ravi Kumar Singh was arrested in connection with a case filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and Section 37 of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, alleging that he, while intoxicated, assaulted an informant’s wife and daughter, attempted to outrage modesty and stole Rs.3,000. The petitioner claimed innocence, arguing that the allegations were false and the injury was simple. The State opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the offences and the petitioner’s prior criminal antecedent. The Court considered the facts, the period of custody since 25‑07‑2025, and the nature of the charges, and decided to grant bail. Accordingly, the petitioner was released on bail upon furnishing a bond of Rs.15,000 with two sureties of the same amount.

Issues considered

  • Whether bail should be granted to the petitioner despite the serious nature of the offences alleged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act.
  • Whether the petitioner’s prior criminal antecedent and the period of custody warrant denial of bail.
