The court held that the District Land Acquisition Officer must pay the compensation to the petitioner within three weeks, and failing that, the petitioner may approach the District Magistrate‑cum‑Collector within six weeks for relief.

Summary

Petitioner Pramila Devi filed a writ petition seeking compensation for two parcels of her land (total 16.02 decimal) that had been acquired by the State of Bihar for a hospital. She alleged that the authorities had unduly delayed payment and caused harassment. The petitioner was ready to submit the required form to the District Land Acquisition Officer (DLAO) to claim the compensation. The High Court examined the petition and directed the DLAO, after verification of records, to pay the compensation within three weeks. The Court further ordered that if the DLAO fails to comply, the petitioner may approach the District Magistrate‑cum‑Collector for redress within six weeks. The application was consequently disposed of.
