Patna High Court

Dr. Dinesh SinghversusThe State of Bihar

Decided

Holding

The contempt petition was disposed of as there was no surviving cause for adjudication.

Summary

The petitioner, Dr. Dinesh Singh, filed a contempt petition before the Patna High Court alleging non-compliance by the State of Bihar, Magadh University and its officials. The university submitted annexure documents showing that a sum of Rs.50,000 had already been paid to the petitioner, contending that there was nothing left for adjudication. The petitioner did not file any representation to rebut this claim, despite being served a copy of the show‑cause order. The court noted the lack of any rejoinder and observed that compliance had been effected, leaving no substantive issue for determination. Consequently, the court disposed of the contempt petition, granting the petitioner liberty to file a fresh representation within four weeks for any pending grievance, which the university registrar must address. The petition was therefore dismissed as moot.

                                2. Learned counsel for the Magadh University, by

referring to document appended with the show-cause as

Annexure-A series, submits that a consolidated amount of

Rs.50,000/- has already been paid to the petitioner and

therefore, nothing survives for adjudication in the present case.

                                3. There is no representation on behalf of the

petitioner to rebutt such submissions and pursuant to order

passed on 12.12.2025, a copy has been given to learned counsel

for the petitioner in advance and till date, there is no rejoinder to

                                  4. Considering the fact that compliance has already

been made and nothing survives for adjudication, the contempt

for pending grievance, if any, appropriate representation shall be

filed within a period of four weeks and the Registrar, Magadh
