Patna High Court

Ashok Kumar SinghversusThe State of Bihar through Shri Amrit Lal Meena

Decided
Disposal
CONSIGNED

Holding

Since the respondents demonstrated compliance with the contempt order, the court held that the contempt petition stands consigned.

Summary

Ashok Kumar Singh filed a contempt petition before the Patna High Court alleging that certain officials of the State of Bihar had failed to comply with a prior order. The respondents, representing the State, filed a supplementary show‑cause notice stating that the contempt order had been complied with. The court examined the submission and found that the respondents had indeed complied with the order. Consequently, the court held that there was no longer any basis for contempt. The petition was therefore consigned, effectively dismissing it. The petitioner was advised that any further grievance could be pursued through the appropriate legal remedy.

Issues considered

  • Whether the respondents have complied with the contempt order.
  • Whether the alleged contempt still exists.
  • Whether the contempt petition should be dismissed or consigned.

Subjects

  • contempt of court
  • civil writ jurisdiction
  • high court
  • compliance
  • petition dismissal
