Summary
The petitioner, Koley Cement Distributors Pvt Ltd, filed an arbitration petition under Section 29-A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 seeking an extension of time to complete the arbitral proceedings and to pass the award. The arbitration was already at the final hearing stage and this was the first request for an extension. No opposition was raised by the respondent, Ultratech Cement Limited, to the time extension. The Court examined whether the statutory provision permits such an extension in the absence of any objection. Finding that the conditions of Section 29‑A were satisfied, the Court granted the extension. The order extended the time from the date the order is uploaded, thereby allowing the arbitral tribunal to complete the award.
